6th Grade Abstract Cartoon

For this assignment, students studied the paintings of Chicago and Illinois native, Elizabeth Murray. Students created colorful abstract compositions from a theme of their choice using a glue resist and oil pastels. By combining realistic and abstract shapes, students worked to tell a story through images and color.

Fun Fact: Elizabeth Murray actually lived in Bloomington for a period of time and went to the old BHS before moving back to Chicago to study at the School of the Art Institute!
