Egyptian Canopic Jars

During Quarter 2, 6th grade students were learning about Ancient Egypt in their Social Studies class.  Students were able to further learn about ancient Egyptians and were introduced to various types of Egyptian art, including mumification and specifically, canopic Jars.

These jars were used during the mummification process to preserve and store internal organs including the stomach, intestines, liver and lungs. While its a bit gross, it definitely sparked some interesting conversations!  Students were able to create their own canopic jar… but obviously we left them empty!
