Thanks to Northwest Middle School Technology teacher, Mr. Acevedo, 6th and 7th Grade Art Club students were able to participate in a hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) workshop with materials donated from the James Dyson Foundation of Chicago. Mr. Acevedo requested an Engineering Box from the foundation and Art Club students were able to spend time exploring how the machines worked. We were able to discuss the role of industrial design in the arts as well as its connection to engineering, science, and math.
Students loved having time to explore the turbine heads (including taking them apart!) and were enthusiastic to learn how the turbines worked. If you are interested in participating in a similar workshop, The Dyson Foundation will loan out boxes to teachers for up to 4 weeks. More information at the link below:
